Chamber Policy Committees

Government Relations Committee

  • Oversees the Environmental, Health, and Tax Subcommittees in addition to the International and Transportation Committees. Monitors regional, state, and federal issues to assess their impact on the Capital Region business community.

  • Makes recommendations to the Board of Directors on possible courses of action on Chamber positions.

  • Researches and tracks proposed legislation and regulations that have the potential to impact the Chamber membership and advocate positions and policy issues to elected officials and regulatory agencies.

  • Provides a business community forum with local, state, and federal representatives to discuss issues of importance to the Chamber membership and educate the business community on important government affairs issues and policies.

  • Helps to educate Chamber membership on how to become involved in the government and legislative process.

  • Coordinates meetings with local, state, and regional organizations of similar interests to resolve key issues of concern to business.

    The Government Relations committee meets on the first Thursday of every month at 8:15.

International Committee

  • Focuses on public policy issues surrounding trade and foreign direct investment.
  • The committee is currently seeking member volunteers to develop issues for the committee to focus on.

The International committee meets on the 3rd Tuesday of every month at 8:00 a.m. at EDS' office space ( 225 Grandview Ave. in Camp Hill)

Transportation Committee

  • Promotes and develops a better understanding of policy initiatives and goals of the Central Pennsylvania Region dealing with transportation.
  • The committee is positioned to make recommendations and evaluations for the community.
  • Transportation funding initiatives are researched and evaluated for the purposes of improving state and local roads across Pennsylvania.
  • The Harrisburg Regional Chamber works together with other organizations throughout the Central Pennsylvania region to improve traffic congestion, mitigation, and air quality.
  • The Harrisburg Regional Chamber participates in traffic mitigation and air quality improvement efforts, such as Commuter Services, through the Susquehanna Regional Transportation Partnership.

    This committee meets on the 2nd Wednesday of every other month at 8:30 a.m.

Environmental & Energy Subcommittee

  • Monitors local, state and federal actions concerning the environment in order to educate membership and communicate the Chamber's stance to agency personnel, and local, state, and federal legislatures, with the chamber's goal of facilitating responsible management of environmental resources.

  • Continues to develop strong working relationships between business and government with respect to environmental issues.

  • Reviews proposed laws, regulations, and policies with the local, state and federal government and communicates the Chamber's position.

  • Reviews and develops appropriate comments on legislative and regulatory proposals addressing water management and water pollution issues and events.

  • Assists in the development of responsible waste laws and policies.

  • Educates members and the business community on environmental issues.

  • Encourages business to seek and implement existing technologies that reduce resource depletion, promote the use of renewable energy, and also to control pollution.

  • Supports the vision of creating comprehensive regional planning, zoning, and capital improvement budgeting and programming at the tri-county level.

    This committee meets on the 1st Tuesday of every month at 8:15 a.m.

Health Subcommittee

  • Reviews proposed state and federal legislative and regulatory proposals that impact health care.

  • Makes recommendations to the Government Relations Committee on elements of public policy dealing with comprehensive health system reform.

  • Assists Chamber leadership in advocating for or against policy initiatives that may impact access, cost, quality and/or the finance of health care.

    This committee meets as needed.

Tax Subcommittee

  • Researches and reports on tax issues, with emphasis on local tax reform.
  • Informs the General Assembly, Congress, and municipal officials of tax concerns in our region.

    This committee meets as needed.
