The Harrisburg Regional Chamber and CREDC Announces Economic Development Assistance Provided to the Opening of Carley's

HARRISBURG, PA (December 19, 2007) - The Harrisburg Regional Chamber and CREDC (HRC/CREDC) announced today that it provided financing to Stocks on 2nd, Inc. for the purpose of expanding the restaurant enterprise. Stocks on 2nd, Inc. is opening a new restaurant venue with family style Italian flavor called Carley's. The new restaurant is located at 204 Locust Street, Harrisburg, Dauphin County, PA at the former location of the Bread Shed. It is just around the corner from their existing location on 2nd Street.

"We are delighted to see another new restaurant added to the downtown line-up, especially coming from such skilled restaurateurs," Dauphin County Commissioner Nick DiFrancesco said.  "This new Italian eatery is another tangible sign that this region is coming on strong.  We welcome Carley's and the delicious cuisine and family-sustaining jobs it will bring to Dauphin County."

Stocks on 2 nd was created in July of 1997 by Stephen & KJ Weinstock and opened on February, 1998. It is known as the restaurant that started Harrisburg's downtown restaurant renaissance, which we now identify as restaurant row. Stocks on 2nd serves a wide mix of food including international flavors with an American touch. The success of this establishment is a direct result of the management skills and good business sense of both Stephen and his wife KJ who both serve as General Managers. The new eatery will be an Italian restaurant with a piano bar. The restaurant will have a home-style feel with family-style service. The upscale feel of Stocks will be carried through to this establishment, as well. The idea for this restaurant came through customer feedback at Stocks.

"The HRC/CREDC financing assisted us in making Carley's a reality," stated Stephen Weinstock.  "It has been a pleasure working with CREDC and we are looking forward to providing great service and great food to our customers."

HRC/CREDC provided a Small Business First (SBF) loan of $161,950 in conjunction with the Dauphin County Redevelopment Fund and additional equity contributions. Total project costs were $323,900. Other related project costs were financed by the Mayor's Office of Economic Development. The project is expected to retain 22 full-time jobs and create 15 full-time jobs within 3 years. The SBF loan program is designed to stimulate the expansion and assist in the retention of small business for the purpose of creating new jobs and retaining existing jobs in Pennsylvania. This important program is administered by the Commonwealth's Department of Community and Economic Development and is funded with the ongoing support of the Administration and the General Assembly.
