Harrisburg Regional Chamber & CREDC Hosts Business Solutions on the Road

Department of General Services presents COSTARS

HARRISBURG (April 18, 2007 ) -- Today, the Harrisburg Regional Chamber & Capital Region Economic Development Corporation (HRC/CREDC) took their Business Solutions seminar series on the road to Middletown. The Department of General Services presented, to a crowd of thirty Chamber members, COSTARS at the Middletown Elks Club, downtown Middletown . Business Solutions is a program created by HRC/CREDC as a value add for members to assist in increasing their bottom lines. Seminars are typically held every other month and featured speakers present relevant topics to membership.

Tim Fulkerson, Manager, COSTARS Marketing & Constituent Relations Bureau of Procurement and Bruce Beardsley, Assistant Manager, COSTARS , Marketing & Constituent Relations Bureau of Procurement, were the featured presenters from the Department of General Services.

COSTARS is a new approach to the Cooperative Purchasing Program. COSTARS encourages the formulation of an interactive partnership between Local Public Procurement Units and the Commonwealth. There are over 4,200 Local Public Procurement Units taking advantage of existing Commonwealth contracts. COSTARS' goal is to provide better contracts with competitive pricing, while increasing participation of eligible participants.

Beardsley stated, "The COSTARS program is a WIN/WIN for the citizens in the Greater Harrisburg region.  Harrisburg area local governments save taxpayer money by purchasing goods at competitive prices without having to go through the expensive public bid process and Harrisburg area small businesses can compete for that local government business, thus keeping those tax dollars in the local Harrisburg regional economy."

The Harrisburg Regional Chamber & CREDC serves as a catalyst for promoting growth and quality of life in Cumberland , Dauphin and Perry Counties by providing a unique blend of business, community and economic development and advocacy services under one roof to boost our economic vitality and livability as a region. HRC/CREDC has been accredited with four stars from the United States Chamber of Commerce.
