CREDC Begins Demolition Project

CREDC BEGINS DEMOLITION PROJECT

HARRISBURG (SEPTEMBER 10, 2008) - The Harrisburg Regional Chamber & CREDC, along with local business and community leaders broke ground on Wednesday, September 10th for the latest Capital Region Economic Development brownfield project.  CREDC took title to the Charles D. Snyder Electroplating facility, located at the corner of North Tenth and Walnut Streets, in the City of Harrisburg, which has been vacant since 2005.

CREDC plans to demolish the buildings, construct a retaining wall and build a landscaped parking lot that will provide 37 additional parking spaces to benefit customers at Appalachian Brewing Company. This project supports the City of Harrisburg's strategic plans to revitalize vacant brownfield sites, as well as leveraging continued growth along the Cameron Street Corridor.

"By providing proper incentives and remediation, we can turn brownfields into gold,"  Dauphin County Commissioner Nick DiFrancesco said.  "We do not have to pave paradise to put up a parking lot.  We can clean up an old site to make it happen. This is recycling on a grand scale, and a true investment in the future of the Cameron Street Corridor and beyond."

The Capital Region Economic Development Corporation (CREDC), is the economic development arm of the Harrisburg Regional Chamber, and is the leading organization for promoting and performing economic development activities in Cumberland, Dauphin and Perry counties.  The group offers a variety of programs and resources to help attract, retain and expand business in the region.

The Harrisburg Regional Chamber & CREDC serves as a catalyst for promoting growth and quality of life in Cumberland, Dauphin and Perry Counties by providing a unique blend of business, community and economic development and advocacy services under one roof to boost our economic vitality and livability as a region.
