Local Entrepreneurs Reap Rewards of TechCelerator Program

CARLISLE, PA - On Tuesday, August 30, 2011, four recent graduates of an intense eight-week program called the TechCelerator @ Carlisle, presented their business plan concepts to a panel of industry professionals.  Three were awarded vouchers that can be redeemed for business support services related to starting their companies, and the fourth received an honorable mention.

The TechCelerator concept, which was developed by Ben Franklin Technology Partners/CNP www.cnp.benfranklin.org and the economic development arm of the Harrisburg Regional Chamber, provides designated, shared workspace in an incubator setting, while delivering focused business support services.

  • Mr. Tim Tatge was awarded $8,000 in vouchers to help start Physician's Choice, a company that plans to sell supplements through doctors' offices.
  • Mr. Jake Walker and his company, Runoff Studios, developed an environmental-based game for iPod/iPhones called, Face the Waste.  He was awarded $1,000 in business startup vouchers.
  • Mr. Anthony Linn and his business, Rent Wire, which offers web-based landlord support, also received $1,000 in vouchers for business services.
  • Kurt Hinds - KUR Technologies, an alternative energy company with a prototype for a solar generator received honorable mention.

Note:  Applications for the next cohort, which begins on September 22, will be accepted through September 19, 2011.

Pam Martin, the Executive Director of the TechCelerator Program, commented on the day's events, "All of the entrepreneurs have come a long way in presenting their business concepts.  The judges were particularly impressed with the enthusiasm each candidate displayed as they presented their information, especially given the short amount of time they have been working on their business plans."
